The Western Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Guarantee
If you’re Phi Theta Kappa (PTK), then you’re already proving and prepping yourself
for success. Because of your accomplishments, WCU is prepared to make some PTK guarantees.

For Resident Credit Programs
- PTK Guaranteed Admission to the University
- The Office of Undergraduate Admissions admits to the university and not to specific
programs of study.
- Complete the admission application process timely and receive a PTK great grades guarantee.
PTK Great Grades Conditions:
- Apply as a transfer student and submit required supporting documentation (including
application fee or waiver, if required) by stated deadlines:
- April 1 for summer/fall terms
- Nov 1 for spring terms
- Applicant must exhibit good citizenship (e.g., no social or judicial violations) as
well as positive school and community standing
- For the guarantee to remain in effect, admitted students must meet all commitment
action steps by stated deadlines.
- Brinson Honors College invitation:
- Be sure to explore the opportunity to enhance your undergraduate experience at WCU
by completing the Brinson Honors College Path.
- If your community college offers honors courses, check to see if you may be able to
apply some of those hours toward our honors diploma

- Opportunity to Compete for PTK Scholarships:
- WCU commits $100,000 annually to support Western PTK Scholarships
- One hundred, $1,000, annual scholarships
- $500 per fall and spring semesters
- Students who begin in summer are eligible for consideration
- One scholarship annually is designated for each North Carolina Community College with
an active PTK chapter
- If no eligible PTK member enrolls from one or more designated chapters, those funds
will be applied to other eligible PTK applicants
- In-state and out-of-state chapters and students are eligible for consideration
- Priority consideration each year goes to new enrolling PTK students
- Potential renewal for one additional year is subject to the number of new students
enrolling, remaining available funding, and WCU academic participation and performance.
- PTK scholars also receive priority consideration for available on-campus housing:
- Indicate your interest in on-campus housing on the application for admission
- Housing requirements are based upon Policy 96 (policy96.wcu.edu), and assignments are based upon timeliness of commitment deposit submission.
- PTK scholars who are not required by Policy 96 to live on campus receive priority
consideration for on-campus housing for available spaces for transfer students.
- Scholarship eligibility:
- Minimum 3.50 cumulative higher education GPA
- Apply as a transfer student for resident-credit programs by April 1
- Meet all admission application deadlines and commitment action steps
- Submit the PTK Scholarship application by April 15
- Priority consideration given based upon number of hours earned and GPA
- PTK members who have or will have earned an associate’s degree prior to enrollment
receive highest consideration.
- Western PTK Scholarship Recipients
- Should enroll in at 15 hours per semester
- Must successfully complete at least 12 hours each semester
- Must maintain a minimum 3.0 WCU GPA
- Must remain in good academic standing
- The Western PTK Scholarship can be used with other aid awards, up to cost of attendance,

- Apply as a transfer student and submit required supporting documentation (including
application fee or waiver, if required) by stated deadlines
