Biography

Kelsey Jones serves as an Instructor in Higher Education at Ìð¹ÏÊÓƵapp. She teaches in the Higher Education Student Affairs (HESA) graduate program and serves as the Program Director for the LEAD Minor. <br><br>Before joining the WCU faculty, Kelsey worked as a scholar-practitioner in higher education since 2015 in the areas of campus recreation, student activities, student leadership development, and equity and inclusion. She has taught undergraduate courses in Leadership Studies and First-Year Seminars at both the University of Florida and Ìð¹ÏÊÓƵapp. Originally from Florida, Kelsey received her Bachelor's in English Language Arts Education from the University of Central Florida and went on to receive her Master's in Student Personnel in Higher Education from the University of Florida. Kelsey is currently pursuing her Doctor of Education (EdD) degree from Ìð¹ÏÊÓƵapp in Educational Leadership and is scheduled to graduate May 2025.

Teaching Interests

Kelsey is a relational leader who believes in the power of each individual’s unique story. She strives to lead with authenticity at the forefront, being true to herself and her values. As an educator, she believes in <b>constructivism</b> <b>learning theory</b> (CLT). This theory stands on the notion that students learn by building on their own existing knowledge through experiences and social interactions. Creating an inclusive environment is a priority. It is her desire for each and every student to feel that they can bring their true and authentic self to the classroom.

Research Interests

Kelsey's research focuses on Trauma-Informed Educational Practices (TIEP), exploring how to effectively implement these strategies in classrooms and student programs to better understand college students' learning and development. She also investigate how previous experiences impact their educational journey. Additionally, Kelsey examines the unique needs of Generation Z, aiming to create equitable and supportive learning environments that meet them where they are, both in and out of the classroom. Her work seeks to foster a deeper understanding of college-aged students and promote practices that enhance their academic and personal growth.
