Our Registration Process for New Students

A professional advisor is assigned to all newly admitted students based on the major they select in Preregistration.

PROFESSIONAL ADVISORS ARE LOCATED IN THE FOLLOWING OFFICES:

Your advisor will build a tentative first term course schedule that is based on the information you provided in Preregistration. A typical course load is 15-17 credit hours, which is 5 or 6 courses, but your advisor may only build an initial schedule of 12-13 hours. Students will learn how to run/read a degree audit and learn how to adjust their classes at orientation. Students will have the ability to adjust (add and drop) classes at orientation; this ability will continue through the drop/add deadline for the term.

BEFORE YOU CAN BE REGISTERED FOR ANY CLASSES, YOU MUST:

  • complete all admission requirements - track status of requirements in
  • register for a New Student Orientation session.

DURING YOUR ORIENTATION SESSION, YOU WILL:

  • meet your professional advisor and receive your course schedule.
  • learn more about Liberal Studies requirements.
  • meet with faculty in your major department for information about program requirements and expectations.
  • learn how to add or drop a class.

ONCE CLASSES BEGIN,

if you have 0-45 completed credit hours and declared a major:

  • your professional advisor will serve as your "primary" advisor.

if you have 0-45 completed credit hours and have not declared a major:

  • you will be assigned the professional advisor who is the liaison for the major you are interested in, and your professional advisor will serve as your "primary" advisor.

if you have 46+ completed credit hours and declared a major:

  • you will be assigned the professional advisor who is the liaison to your major and will serve as your “secondary” advisor
  • you will be assigned a "primary" faculty advisor in the department of your major

THE OFFICIAL ADVISING & REGISTRATION PERIOD FOR THE NEXT TERM BEGINS SHORTLY AFTER THE FIRST HALF OF THE SEMESTER.

During this period, you will:

  • meet with your "primary" advisor to plan your schedule for the next term
  • receive your Alt PIN, which is required to register for classes and can only be given to you by your "primary" advisor
