WCU's Advancement office sets holiday hours to assist with year-end giving

While most Ìð¹ÏÊÓƵapp offices will be closed during the Christmas and New Year’s holiday period, WCU’s Advancement office will be open for special hours on two days to assist donors with year-end giving.

Almost all university offices will be closed from 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 21, until 8 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 2, with an exception being the Advancement unit on the Cullowhee campus. Advancement staffers will be on duty from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on both Friday, Dec. 28, and Monday, Dec. 31, to assist potential donors via phone (828-227-7124 or 800-492-8496) or by email at advancement@wcu.edu. Online giving also is available by visiting .

Monday, Dec. 31, is the deadline for gifts to the university to be counted as charitable gifts in calendar year 2018. Mailed checks must be postmarked and online gifts time-stamped prior to midnight on the evening of Dec. 31. That requirement also applies to qualified charitable distributions (also known as QCD) from an IRA.

Dec. 31 also is the deadline for stock gifts to be transferred and in the WCU Foundation account for the donor to receive charitable gift credit. Most stock gifts take a minimum of three business days to process.

Staff members in WCU’s Division of Information Technology will be busy during a portion of the holiday period as they perform maintenance on the campus data center systems. Work is set for 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Dec. 28 and Saturday, Dec. 29. System access will be unavailable or sporadic during those times.

Campus police in Cullowhee will be on duty throughout the holiday period and can be reached at 828-227-8911 during emergencies and 828-227-7301 for non-emergencies. However, after the holidays, the WCU Emergency Communications Center will be affected as the IT staff conducts maintenance on the campus phone system from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 7. There will be sporadic campuswide phone and fax outages on the Cullowhee campus during that time, and the outage window may be extended if unforeseen problems arise during the work. Cellular phones and alarm panels on campus will not be affected. During the work, emergencies can be reported by calling the Emergency Communications Center at 828-293-1841, but 911 also can be used to reach the Jackson County dispatch center.

Spring semester activities will begin at WCU with residence halls opening Friday, Jan. 11, and classes starting Monday, Jan. 14.
