Workshop to focus on cultural competency for nonprofits

甜瓜视频app鈥檚 Office of Professional Growth and Enrichment is offering a workshop focusing on 鈥淏uilding Cultural Competency and Diversity Within Nonprofits鈥 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 21, at the university鈥檚 site at Biltmore Park in Asheville.

鈥淭his one-day workshop will highlight the importance of developing cultural competency as part of the nonprofit professional practice in culturally diverse settings,鈥 said Ricardo Nazario-Col贸n, workshop instructor and WCU鈥檚 chief diversity officer.

Participants also will have an opportunity to learn about the role of culture, alternative views and differences when advancing mission and engaging in nonprofit management practice.

Topics and group discussion will focus on developing increased knowledge of diversity and cultural competency as well as effective skills to gain the trust, respect and legitimacy of the nonprofit鈥檚 stakeholders. Participants will be encouraged to act in a supportive manner that recognizes the feelings of another cultural group, especially when managing and supervising others.

The workshop is being offered as stand-alone training or can be taken as part of the Certified Nonprofit Professional Program.

The registration fee for the workshop is $89, and the CNP course fee is $300. Continuing education credits are available.
