This year's James Cooper Memorial Lecture in Cherokee Studies will take place on Monday, Feb. 3, 5:30 p.m., in Apodaca Building room 201. This year's speaker will be Christopher Teuton, who will deliver a talk titled "Wolf Wears Shoes: Standing in the Middle with Cherokee Storytelling."

A citizen of the Cherokee Nation, Teuton is professor and chair of the American Indian Studies Department at the University of Washington-Seattle. His talk will be drawn from his recent book, Cherokee Earth-Dwellers: Stories and Teachings of the Natural World. Cherokee Earth-Dwellers was co-authored with the late Hastings Shade, a Cherokee Nation scholar, cultural expert, and political leader.

The book explores Cherokee language, oral tradition, and traditional knowledge of the natural world. Teuton will deliver the talk again on Tuesday, February 4, at 5:30 p.m. at the Museum of the Cherokee People.
